The Cause for the Detour
THE CAUSE FOR THE DETOUR…ONE OF THEM. Those of us who travel U.S. 36 between Montezuma and Rockville daily (or more often) have learned the routes through Coloma and on Strawberry Road and Cooke Road. The reason for our new-found adventures on the backroads of Parke County is shown above, as the project appears to be nearing completion this past weekend. White Construction Company of Clinton replaced a much smaller drainage culvert under the road with this larger, concrete box structure. The $1.49 million contract also included the re-configuring of the Lyford “Y” into the Lyford “T” last summer. Although the road is “officially” scheduled to re-open at the end of September, it appears that our days of traversing the backroads may come to an end sooner than that.
