Parke County Ministerial Association and the Parke County Pastors’ Prayer Network will host a National Day of Prayer Thursday, May 5 at 7 p.m. on the Parke County Courthouse lawn.

The Young at Heart Ministry of the Hillsboro Nazarene Church announces the upcoming Saturday events. Unless otherwise noted, each event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and reservations may be made by calling the church at (765) 798-2350. Activities are open to all older adults in Fountain and neighboring counties. The May 7 event will be Older Americans Month Celebration. Festivities include a performance by the Fountain Central Jr/Sr High School Band at 11 a.m., blood pressure checks, informational tables and a picnic lunch. Persons of all ages are invited to join the celebration. Location for this event is Hillsboro Nazarene Church, 453 S. State Road 341. To facilitate planning, reservations are encouraged by May 3. This event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Parke County Community Garden Yard Sale will be held Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will be at the Community Garden on U.S. 41 south of U.S. Hwy 36 and is sponsored by the Rockville Rotary Club with all proceeds going to support the community garden.

Parke County Senior Citizens will meet at the Plaza One Building, behind the Old Jail Inn, Tuesday, May 10 at 11 a.m. Bring your lunch. We will discuss having the yard sale. For further information about joining, call (765) 592-7049.

Stamp Out Hunger

Rockville Rotary Club members along with Parke County Food Pantry volunteers will be assisting in the 30th annual National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive in and around Rockville Saturday, May 14. Non-perishable donated goods should be placed next to home mailboxes by 9 a.m. on collection day for pick-up by letter carriers and volunteers. Postal carriers will be distributing special collection bags to patron’s mailboxes during the next couple weeks. The ”Stamp Out Hunger” food drive is the country’s largest single-day food drive. This will be the first time since 2019 the food drive will be in-person due to the COVID pandemic.

The annual Bellmore-Union Township High School Reunion will be held at the Thirty-Six Saloon, 108 E. Ohio St, Rockville, Saturday, May 14 at noon. Any former students and teachers are welcome. Parke County Senior Citizens will have a yard sale May 14 and 15 at the community building across from The Ritz Theatre. Clothing up to 2X, angels, bluebirds, nativities  and lots of miscellaneous. For further information, call (765) 592-7049.

The 15th Annual Zoom Town Covered Bridge 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, May 21. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with the run/walk beginning at 8 a.m. Awards will be presented at 9 a.m. The race will be held at 338 W. 40 N. and Hwy 36 in Rockville. Register on Facebook page or contact (317) 965-4880 or online at this event is sponsored by the Montezuma Covered Bridge Festival Volunteer Committee. 10% of the profit will go to the Parke County Food Pantry.

The Parke County Veteran’s Council is announcing its Memorial Day ceremony. This year’s Memorial Day ceremony will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Rockville, Monday, May 30, at 11 a.m. The Rockville American Legion will be placing flags on the graves of veterans at Memory Gardens Cemetery and the Old Rockville Cemetery May 27, starting at 9 a.m. Anyone wanting to help with placing these flags on the graves of veterans should plan on meeting at Memory Gardens Cemetery at 9 a.m. Friday, May 27. Any help is very much appreciated. If a flag was not placed on a veteran’s grave, please contact the Parke County Veterans Office at (765) 569-4036 to report this. Extra flags will be placed around the flagpole at the cemetery for people to get one to place it on the veteran’s grave.

Parkeville Community Christian Church will host a Memorial Day Service at Mt. Moriah Cemetery, on the lawn by the memorial by the entrance Monday, May 30 at 9:45 a.m. We will remember those buried in Mt. Moriah and Portland Mills Cemeteries and any other remembrances anyone may have. Mt. Moriah is about a mile north of Hollandsburg on 100 N, just west of 875 E. Please bring a lawn chair if you can’t stand for long. In case of rain, it will be held at the Parkeville Church at 7934 E 350 N, about a mile east of S.R. 59.
