Rockville Athletic Alumni Golf Outing

The 21st Annual ROX Athletic Alumni Golf Outing was held September 16, at the Parke County Golf Course. This was the first time our annual event was held in conjunction with the school’s fall Homecoming Week since our initial outing in 2002. The decision to move the event greatly benefited our participants who are active with the 4-H Fair and provided us with the much cooler weather than the usual July heat. The 2023 outing brought alumni back from all over the United States with several attending for the very first time.

With just under 150 golfers attending, the Parke County Golf Course was packed from dawn to dusk. The morning flight set out with a 7:45 a.m. tee time in the cool, brisk air. The morning session was won by Zach Clapp, Taylor Harper, Daniel Martin and Aaron Bridge. Clint White won the closest to the pin on Hole #9 and Dan Miksch closest to the pin on Hole #12.

Lunch was served by Nana’s Kitchen and a great spread was provided for all the attendees of the event. During the luncheon, Veteran Tree Trimming LLC provided their bucket truck for one of our newer traditions, the 50/50  “golf ball drop”. This year’s winner, Mr. and Mrs. Josh Doss, graciously donated  their portion back to the RAA.

Our celebration ceremony began with the introduction of our 2023 Scholarship winners. Haley Holcomb and Gavin Jacks, were introduced and spoke briefly about their current collegiate status. Our 2023 Team Honoree was the 2012 Rox Boys Basketball State Finalists.  Many coaches and players were able to attend and reminisce about their amazing season and memories that were made on that special journey. The “Coach of the Year” award was presented to Diane Shelton.  Shelton served many years as the high school volleyball coach and has held other coaching duties throughout her career. She currently still teaches at Parke Heritage High School.
