AN ORDINANCE TEMPORARILY CLOSING ROADS IN BRIDGETON, INDIANA, AN UNINCORPORATED TOWN

 

WHEREAS, to ensure public safety during the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival there is a need for additional automobile traffic regulations and street closures to control traffic  on  the  county  roads  and  streets  in  and  around  the  unincorporated  town  of Bridgeton, Indiana; and

 

WHEREAS, the Parke County Board of Commissioners is responsible for the upkeep, legal regulation, and maintenance of county roads and streets within and around the unincorporated towns of Parke County, Indiana; and

 

WHEREAS, the Parke County Board of Commissioners has determined that public safety and welfare is benefitted from the placement of traffic regulations on county road and street closures in the unincorporated town of Bridgeton, Indiana during the Parke County, Indiana Covered Bridge Festival each year; and

 

WHEREAS, the Parke County Board of Commissioners has determined that the proposed county road and street closures do not unreasonably interfere with the flow of traffic on the county road system, as alternate routes are available.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of Parke

County, Indiana:

 

  1. That upon passage of this Ordinance and publication thereof, the Parke County Highway Department and Parke County Sheriff’s Department shall take all actions necessary to close the following streets during the Parke County, Indiana Covered Bridge Festival on an annual basis from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on each day of the festival.

 

a Bridgeton Road shall be closed, beginning at the north side of the Bridgeton bridge, and continuing until the intersection with Kelley Street.

 

  1. Hawkins Road shall be closed from the entrance of the Hawkins’ parking lot and continuing until the intersection with Bridgeton Road.

 

c Searing Street shall be closed from Don Payne’s  residence (8351 Searing Street) north to Hawkins Road.

 

d All side streets between Searing Street and/or Crooks Street and Bridgeton Road shall be closed, including all alleys, including those across the street from George Street (all side streets shall remain closed for the entirety of the festival).

 

e Volunteer Way shall be a one-way street in a westerly direction only.

 

  1. That the failure to abide by traffic regulations is governed by I.C. 9-21-1, which is incorporated herein  by reference  as the punishment for failure  to abide by road closure signs or one-way traffic signs placed in accordance with this ordinance. In the event that a violation is not specifically governed by the Indiana Code, said offense shall be punished as a Class C Infraction

 

  1. This Ordinance shall not apply to Emergency Personnel or Authorized Permit Pass Holders.

 

Unanimous consent of Parke County Commissioners who were present on the 18th day of September 2023 to consider the ordinance on the same date as introduced.
