GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM WINS TOURNEY. The Parke Heritage Middle School eighth grade team won the Owen Valley Invitational Saturday, January 28. In game one, the team took an early lead against Edgewood and never looked back. They defeated the Mustangs, 35-18. Scorers for PHMS were Addison Ramsay 10, Carly Newnum nine, Anesa Veseli eight, Lydia Jeffries four, Jackie Ferguson and Abby Mathis both with two points. In the second game, the team faced the Cascade Cadets. In the first quarter, they went on an 8-0 run, which gave them a lead which they secured for the entire game.  Anesa Veseli lead the scoring with 10. Lydia Jeffries added eight, Addison Ramsay had six, Carly Newnum scored five, and Abby Mathis had three. The championship game was neck and neck in the first half, each point being matched by the John R Wooden Martinsville team. The score was tied 17-17 at the half. The Wolves came out from halftime with a new determination and outscored their opponents 10-2 in the third and 3-0 in the fourth quarter to secure the championship game and trophy with a final score of 30-19. Scoring for PHMS were Anesa Veseli- 10, Carly Newnum- eight, Addison Ramsay and Lydia Jeffries both with six.
