The ROX Athletic Alumni group will be hosting their 20th annual golf outing/reunion Friday, July 8, at the Parke County Golf Course.
There will be two flights at this year’s event. One set of teams will tee off at 7:15 a.m. with the other scheduled to tee off at 1 p.m. A luncheon with the awards program will begin around 11:30. Currently there are approximately 35 teams set to play. A limited number of spaces are still available. The cost is $65 per person which includes golf, a cart and lunch.
Sponsorships for the outing are also available at different levels. For more information you can contact www.roxalumni.com or on Facebook at Rockville Rox Athletic Alumni.
This outing has grown from a simple day of golf and stories from seven former ROX athletes who wanted to celebrate with Dr. Larry Gambaiani who retired in 2001. These individuals had so much fun they wanted to play again the next year. So, in 2002, the group with six committee members began the annual tournament. The 2002 outing had eight to 10 teams in one flight that morning and all the funds raised about $2,000 which was given to the Athletic Director at that time, Stan Gideon to use for his department. After four or five outings, the number of those wishing to participate it grew immensely and was established as the major fundraiser for the group. Golfers and alumni come from all across the United States to participate.
