Ordinance 2021-01

 

AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING DISPLAY OF COMPANY CONTACT INFORMATION ON VEHICLES

 

WHEREAS, the Parke County Board of Commissioners have become aware of ongoing home improvement schemes/crimes taking place in Parke County, Indiana; and

 

WHEREAS, the Parke County Board of Commissioners desire to protect the citizens of Parke County, Indiana, from any potential fraudulent schemes or crimes; and

 

WHEREAS, the Parke County Sheriff Department through its Chief Deputy has recommended the passage of an Ordinance addressing the labeling of commercial construction vehicles with the business entities name, address and telephone number so as to take an additional step to protect the county citizens from fraudulent construction schemes; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of Parke County, Indiana that:

 

  1. Parke County, Indiana henceforth shall require that any person, firm, corporation, or other business entity engaging in building or property renumeration, including but not limited to new construction, repairs, alterations, demolition, remodeling, driveway paving, white rocking, chip and sealing, and placement of lightning rods must have prominently displayed on their vehicle the business entities name, address, and phone number when soliciting potential customers so as to allow for easy verification of the company’s existence; and

 

  1. This Ordinance shall not apply to individuals or business entities that already have a signed written contract with the customer which provides all of the above required information.

 

  1. The failure of an individual or business entity to comply with the above requirements is a Class C infraction and may result in up to a five-hundred ($500) dollar fine per violation.

 

  1. This Ordinance shall become binding and enforceable thirty (30) days after its publication.

 

Unanimous consent of Parke County Board of Commissioners who were present on the 19 day of April 2021 to consider the ordinance on the same date as introduced.
