Local State Parks Hosting New Programs

Turkey Run State Park will be hosting a Spring Wildflower Walk at the Nature Center, Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11. Registration is required through Eventbrite:springwildflowerstr.eventbrite.com. Spring wildflowers are small and small groups are needed to view them. Spring ephemeral wild flowers are here, but not for long. Many of these wildflowers only bloom for a short period of time. Join a park Naturalist for a stroll towards the suspension bridge to see what is blooming. Stroll will include the 70 steps. Meet at the Nature Center. Turkey Run State Parke is located at 8121 E. Raccoon SRA will be hosting Turtle Time, Saturday, April 10, at 2 p.m. Come to the camp store and learn about turtles as we take our resident red ear slider for a short (for humans) walk. Walk will take approximately 15 minutes. Register online at on.in.gov/raccoonsra. Raccoon SRA is located at 1588 S. Raccoon Parkway, Rockville, IN 47872.

Shades State Park will be hosting an April New Moon Hike, Saturday, April 10, from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. This even is to enjoy the rural resource of a dark night sky. Sturdy footwear is required and a red flashlight is preferred. Participants must be able to lift their knee to a 90˚ angle. Rugged night hikes are not suitable for children under the age of 10. New Moon hikes will only be cancelled if there is hazardous weather. Park entrance fee may apply. Face coverings are required for the duration of the program. April’s New Moon Hike will traverse Pearl Ravine and Maidenhair Falls (Trail 2) 1.25 miles. Total hike time should be around two hours.  Hikers should meet at the Dell Shelter.
