Supreme Court to Hold Oral Argument

The Indiana Supreme Court will travel to Parke Heritage High School in Parke County Tuesday, October 22. The Court will hold oral argument in Cavanaugh’s Sports Bar & Eatery, Ltd. v. Eric Porterfield (18A-CT-1814), a civil negligence case.

The Court holds approximately 60 oral arguments at the State House in Indianapolis each year and occasionally schedules arguments outside the capital. Traveling oral arguments allow students, press, and the public in other areas of the state the opportunity to see the work of the Court.

This argument will take place in the cafeteria of Parke Heritage High School, 506 N. Beadle Street, Rockville, IN 47872 at 10 a.m. The 50-minute argument is open to the press and public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Those interested in attending will be required to enter through the main school entrance from N. Beadle Street and go through security.

Nearly 400 students from the following schools are scheduled to attend:

–Attica High School

–Clay City Jr./Sr. High School

–North Putnam High School

–Parke Heritage High School

–Seeger Junior/Senior High School

Press is welcome to attend in person to videotape/photograph the argument. There are rules to establish decorum: courts.in.gov/files/order-other-2013-49s00-1301-ms-61.pdf. Adjustments will be made due to the location; therefore, press interested in attending must contact Outreach Coordinator Sarah Kidwell at sarah.kidwell@courts.in.gov by Tuesday, October 15 at noon.

The argument will be webcast live and archived on the Court’s website. Parke Heritage High School is accessible to those with disabilities. Accessible parking is available in the main lot from N. Beadle Street. Individuals needing special accommodations should contact Sarah Kidwell.
