DR. JOHN L. TOFAUTE, MD

Dr. John Louis Tofaute, MD, 84, passed away Friday, August 9, 2019, in Southgate, Michigan, surrounded by friends and family.

Born in Rockville, he was the son of Mac Daniel and Eleanor (Burton) Tofaute.

John was a graduate of Rockville High School, Purdue University and Indiana Medical School. He practiced as a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. In recent years, he practiced as a medical legal expert.

John enjoyed nature, especially fishing with his father and brother, George; and the arts; and he was an avid reader. He touched many lives and will be missed.

Survivors include his four children, John Michael Tofaute of Phoenix, Arizona, Suzanne (Reynold, deceased) Argenta of Southgate, Michigan, Julie (Rick) Exley of Phoenix, Arizona and Steve Tofaute of Carmel; grandsons, John (Melissa) Quinkert of Brownstown, Michigan and Reece Tofaute of Carmel; granddaughter, Marlie Tofaute of Carmel; one brother, attorney George (Wanda) Tofaute of Terre Haute; niece, Annette (Dan) Henderson of Louisville, Kentucky; nephews, Phillip (Lynnette) Tofaute of Terre Haute, and David (Kathy) Tofaute of Louisville, Kentucky; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Kristyn (Kenneth) Smith, Ben (Julia) Tofaute, Alex (Sara) Henderson, Emily Tofaute of Louisville, Kentucky and Preston Tofaute and Spence Tofaute of Terre Haute.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of John’s life will be attended by family only. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or a charity of your choice.
