Parke Heritage Boys’ Tennis Splits Opening Matches
The Parke Heritage boys’ tennis team dropped a 3-1 match in a rain-shortened opener at West Vigo last Thursday.
In Singles, Evan James lost 0-6, 2-5 to Dylan Lemon; RJ Nelson lost 2-6, 2-6 to Garrett Roush; and Mason Bowsher lost 0-6, 0-6 to Ashton Matherly; in Doubles, Riley Ferguson and Joel Gooch beat Austin Robertson and Gavin McCoy 6-1, 6-1; and Garrett McCalister and Gavin Jacks’ match against Josh King and Chase Green was rained out after a 7-5, 0-6 tie in the first two games. The Wolves were leading 2-0 in the third set. In junior varsity play, Jonathan Slater and DeVohn Trosper lost 0-6 to Conner Mackey and Dennis Finke.
At Sullivan Saturday, the Wolves took a 4-1 win over the hosts. At Singles, James beat Noah Kincaid 6-0.6-0; Nelson beat Tyler Keller 6-2. 6-3; and Bowsher beat Dillon Grub 6-1, 6-6, 7-4. At Doubles, Ferguson and Gooch beat Jared Couch and Parker Dugan 6-4, 6-1; while McCalister and Slater fell to Brayden Cogle and Scott Fusco 1-6, 2-6.
In the second round against Greencastle Saturday, the Wolves lost 4-1. At Singles, James lost to Trent Ross 5-7, 3-6; Nelson lost to Henry Carter 4-6, 0-6; and Bowsher lost to Josh Nally 0-6, 6-6 (4-2); at Doubles, Ferguson and Gooch beat Collin Gasway and Holton Miller 6-0, 6-1; while McCalister and Jacks lost to Eli Hardwick and Boyd Ensley 1-6, 2-4, 2-6.
