State Road 234 Bridge over the Wabash River project begins Monday

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces a thin deck overlay project  began on the State Road 234 Bridge over the Wabash River this week. Traffic will be restricted to one 14-foot lane at the bridge with a traffic signal. Work was scheduled to begin on or after July 8 with a completion date of August 31.

CLR Inc. was awarded this contract for $963,360.

INDOT  announces a bridge replacement project on the State Road 46 Bridge over Killion Ditch will restrict traffic to one 10-foot lane, beginning on or after Monday, July 15. Motorists will be controlled at the bridge with a traffic signal. This bridge located approximately four miles east of State Road 59 should be opened back to two lanes in early December of this year.

Force Construction was awarded the $4.8 million contract. This project also includes a bridge rehabilitation on State Road 46 over Crooked Creek, located nearly two miles west of S.R. 59. This work will be completed next year.

INDOT  announces the State Road 32 Bridge over the Walnut Fork Creek, located approximately one mile east of Crawfordsville will close on or after Monday, July 22. The work includes a bridge deck replacement and rehabilitation on this bridge.

The State Road 32 Bridge over Walnut Fork is a single-span steel pony truss bridge built in 1940. The project will include the replacement of the bridge deck, approach slabs, and both bridge joints. New deck drains will be installed along with new railing. Bracing and truss members will be replaced in kind as needed and the entire bridge will be cleaned and painted to help preserve the bridge.

The bridge is scheduled to be completed and the road reopened by the middle of November. The detour follows State Road 32/State Road 47 to U.S. 136 to Nucor Road and back to State Road 32.

This project was awarded to ICC Group, Inc. for $3.26 million. This project also includes work on the State Road 32 Yountsville Bridge over Sugar Creek. This rehabilitation project is scheduled to be completed and the road reopened August 16.

INDOT  will close parts of I-65 and I-70 on the south side of Indianapolis. All lanes will be closed on I-65 SB from the South Split to I-465 starting July 12 at 9 p.m. The closure will last for nine days and all lanes will reopen Monday, July 22 by 6 a.m.

INDOT will then close all lanes of I-70 EB and WB from I-465 to the South Split July 26 at 9 p.m. The closure will last for nine days and all lanes will reopen Monday, August 5 by 6 a.m.

Additional closures will be added on the weekends, please follow INDOTEast on Twitter for updates. The closures are in response to rain delays crews have experienced in May and June.

Detours: I-65 SB: During the I-65 SB closure, drivers are encouraged to take I-70 WB to I-465 EB back to I-65 SB; I-70 closure: During the I-70 closure, drivers are encouraged to take I-465 EB to I-65 NB to get downtown or take I-65 SB to I-465 WB to get out of downtown; From the airport: Take I-70 EB to I-465 SB to I-65 NB to get to downtown.

INDOT reminds motorists to follow the posted work zone speed limit, use caution and consider worker safety when traveling through a construction zone.
