Ritz Marquee Removed for Repairs

If you drove past the Ritz Theatre Saturday morning, you may have been in for quite the surprise.
With dozens of onlookers standing around the partially-closed 200 block of West Ohio Street in front of the Ritz, workers dismantled, detached and drove off with the historic marquee that has famously relayed information to moviegoers for more than seven decades.
“It’s going to look a lot different without the marquee, but we’ll have it back soon after some necessary repairs and updates to the sign,” Ritz Theatre Vice President of the Board of Operations Ted Bonomo explained as a crane from Terre Haute arrived early Saturday morning. “It’s something that has to be done if we want to keep showing people what movies and plays are coming up.”
