Weather Delays

Sub-zero temperatures and wind chills in the 30-below-zero range brought much of Indiana to a halt Wednesday. All schools and government offices were closed Wednesday as was the Parke County Sentinel. Mail delivery by the Post Office was stopped Wednesday and again Thursday due to the brutal cold.

Today’s edition, although labeled Wednesday, is actually being printed and delivered Thursday. Although taken to the Post Office that afternoon, with no retail mail service we are uncertain as to when your copy may hit your mail box. Temperatures are warming towards the weekend and are expected to hit at or near 60 degrees Sunday or Monday.

High school sporting events around the state have been postponed or canceled. Most Thursday night boys’ basketball games have been moved to next week while girls’ Sectional play continues Friday night. Covington, Fountain Central and Seeger’s games at Lafayette Central Catholic were postponed to Friday with semi-final games Saturday and the Championship set for Monday night. Many Thursday night preliminaries in girls’ swimming Sectionals were postponed to Friday as well.

At North Vermillion’s girls’ basketball Sectional, the host Lady Falcons took a 59-37 win over Parke Heritage Tuesday night and will play Riverton Parke in the second game Friday night. Attica meets Faith Christian in the opener.
