Girls’ WRC Wrap-up
Both the top and bottom of the Wabash River Conference girls’ basketball team standings depend on two games this Thursday night.
Ninth-ranked North Vermillion (19-2) holds on to the top spot with a 6-1 league record, falling only to Attica (13-6 and 3-2). The Red Ramblers, meanwhile, hold the key to the Lady Falcons claiming sole possession of the team title as a victory in their final regular season game over Seeger (17-3 and 5-1) will give North Vermillion the win. The Lady Patriots hope to claim a share of the title with a win over their neighbors on the east side of the Wabash, where Attica will host the contest.
South Vermillion (11-11 and 3-2) could overtake Attica with Red Rambler losses to Seeger and Parke Heritage (11-11 and 2-4) last night (Tuesday, January 22), and Wildcat wins over Fountain Central, also last night, and a postponed game with Riverton Parke from Saturday.
Both Fountain Central (3-17 and 0-5) and Riverton Parke (1-20 and 0-5) are looking for that first WRC win, but they will meet each other in the final game of the regular season this Thursday, pending the re-scheduling of the South Vermillion game.
Last week’s scores included Cloverdale over Parke Heritage 68-46; Covington over Crawfordsville 51-29; North Vermillion over South Vermillion 44-43; and Seeger over North Montgomery 47-30 last Tuesday; North Central beat Riverton Parke 68-30 Wednesday night; Thursday saw North Vermillion beat Covington 52-36; Parke Heritage over Fountain Cetranl 53-37; and South Vermillion over Clay City 39-31. Four games on tap last Saturday were postponed due to weather, including North Central at North Vermillion; Riverton Parke at South Vermillion; Seeger at Delphi; and Tri-County at Covington.
Games on tap last night also included Covington at Southmont; Crawfordsville at North Vermillion; and Riverton Parke at West Vigo. Other season-ending games set for Thursday include North Vermillion at West Vigo; Parke Heritage at North Central; and South Vermillion at Greencastle.
