Lady Panthers Pick Up Win #1

South Putnam visited Riverton Parke last Tuesday night and defeated the Panthers 58-38 in high school girls’ basketball.
Riverton Parke trailed only 11-8 after one quarter and 23-18 at halftime. South Putnam built a 38-26 lead after three quarter and outscored Riverton Parke 20-12 in the fourth.
Three Riverton Parke senior players were in double figures: Camryn Clapp had 11 points while Grace Pharr and Mackenzie Schermann each had 10 points.
South Putnam also won the junior varsity game 50-31.
The Riverton Parke girls’ basketball team won its first game of the season last Thursday night at Crawfordsville 50-48.
The Panthers started fast as Grace Pharr scored eight points in the opening period and Riverton Parke took a 17-11 lead. The Athenians outscored Riverton Parke 18-10 in the second quarter and took a 29-27 lead at halftime. Crawfordsville expanded their lead in the third quarter to 41-35 heading to the final period. Riverton Parke still trailed 45-41 midway through the final period. Riverton Parke finally tied the game at 47 in the final minute of the game. A free throw by Mackenzie Schermann with 49 seconds to play gave Riverton Parke the lead at 48-47. Riverton Parke got two defensive stops and made enough free throws to hang on for the win.
Pharr and Schermann each scored 15 points to lead the Panthers and Camryn Clapp scored 11 before fouling out early in the fourth quarter.
Crawfordsville won the junior varsity game 46-25.
