Covington defeated Riverton Parke 62-53 in Wabash River Conference boys’ basketball Friday night.
Covington jumped out to a fast start and led 20-10 at the end of the first quarter. Riverton Parke gradually moved closer and eventually tied the game at 27 on a three-pointer by Jonathon Virostko late in the second period. At halftime the teams were tied at 29. The Trojans outscored Riverton Parke 17-11 in the third quarter to take a 46-40 lead into the final period. Riverton Parke could never get the deficit any closer than three the remainder of the game.
Pierson Barnes led the Riverton Parke scoring with 15 points. Virostko was also in double figures with 14.
Covington won the junior varsity game 57-26.
Riverton Parke (3-9, 0-2 in the WRC) will host Attica Friday, January 11.
