Panther Boys’ And Girls’ Team Struggle For First Win

 

The Riverton Parke boys’ basketball team played its first Wabash River Conference game of the season at Fountain Central, losing to the Mustangs 65-57.

Fountain Central came out hot offensively and took a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Riverton Parke made a run late in the second period and a three pointer at the halftime buzzer by Brandon Hazzard cut the deficit to 34-30. Fountain Central reestablished a double digit lead early in the third period. Fountain Central outscored Riverton Parke 16-8 in the third and led 51-38 heading to the final period. Riverton Parke got the margin back to single digits late in the fourth, but Fountain Central held on for the win.

Hazzard led the Riverton Parke scoring with 14 points; Garrett Lawson was also in double figures with 12; Jonathon Virostko and Pierson Barnes each scored nine points; and Logan Harrison added six points.

The Panthers won the junior varsity game 45-33. Braden Duke scored 18 points and Jacob Bolenbaugh had 13 to lead Riverton Parke.

Riverton Parke (0-5, 0-1 in the WRC) will look for its first win when they host Dugger this Friday December 14.
