Falcons Stay Perfect, Tame Wolves’ Run In WRC

The ninth-ranked Parke Heritage Wolves hosted the 11th-ranked Falcons of North Vermillion Friday, September 28 in a highly anticipated Wabash River Conference (WRC) matchup.
Both teams entered the game with an undefeated WRC record and one loss overall. The Falcons ultimately edged the Wolves 36-27, allowing North Vermillion to remain undefeated in the WRC while giving Parke Heritage its first conference loss and an overall record of 5-2.
Parke Heritage drew first blood, entering the second quarter up by seven. However, North Vermillion clawed its way back to enter halftime ahead 18-14.
Outscoring the Wolves by 12 in the second half, the Falcons never gave up the lead, winning by a two-possession score.
Wolves junior quarterback Logan White threw 28 passes, completing 13 for 157 yards and one interception, adding 76 yards on 10 rushes, as well; senior running back Trevor Rapp carried the ball 23 times for 89 yards; junior wide receiver Austin Petrillo brought down five catches for 25 yards and returned a kickoff for a touchdown; freshman wide receiver Noble Johnson pulled in three catches for 42 yards; senior wide receiver Ben Lynk caught two passes for 63 yards; junior wide receiver Jaylen Crull brought in two catches for 22 yards; and senior free safety Jaylen Kerr had a key interception.
Falcon junior quarterback Brennan Ellis was 5-11 for 152 yards in the air, adding 34 yards on 10 carries on the ground; senior running back Christian Myers ran for 227 yards on 26 carries with 24 yards on one reception; senior John Kilgore gained 21 yards on four carries and with 126 receiving yards; and junior wide receiver Lucas Cook added 51 yards on two carries.
Parke Heritage (5-2, 4-1 WRC) travels to Riverton Parke (1-6, 0-5 WRC) Friday, October 5. The Panthers lost in a rout at home last Friday to North Central, 42-7.
North Vermillion (6-1, 5-0 WRC) is set to host Fountain Central (6-1, 4-1 WRC) in another anticipated league matchup Friday.
